How to get help from Love INC
|
|
If you are a Clackamas County resident who is in need,
please call Love INC Monday, Wednesday or Thursday between 12 and 3 p.m. at 503-650-0153.
Verification – We are very respectful of your privacy and dignity,
but we DO validate each request to the extent necessary to confirm that these criteria are met:
- The need is for something the person cannot do for themselves.
- The need is for something the person cannot afford to pay someone to do or provide.
- The need is real and important.
Please understand, we cannot help people who are able to meet their needs elsewhere.
How Love INC may be able to help:
- Listen to your story, and refer you to a wide
range of public and faith-based services in the area.
We can provide:
- Beds, dressers, couches, tables and chairs; cooking, kitchen, bedding,
and household supplies*
- “Fresh Start” kits for women relocating after domestic violence.
- Volunteers can:
- help people move.
- do necessary yard work.
- do minor home repair: light carpentry, light electrical,
light plumbing, painting, and first story gutter-cleaning**
- do minor auto repair (client generally responsible for paying for all parts).
- build wheelchair ramps.
- One partner church offers job-seeker support by skilled professionals
- Several partner churches offer food and clothes pantries
- Short-term supplies of diapers
- Bikes for kids and job-seekers without transportation
- Haircuts for job seekers, foster kids, and others in need
Love In the Name of Christ (Love INC) is NOT:
- We are NOT a crisis center. (When people call in crisis, we direct them
to the appropriate “hot lines” and community resources.)
- We are NOT a place to go for rent or utility money.
We do NOT have any internal supply of money to give out toward rent or utility bills,
and we will virtually never ask a partner church (or any other church) to pay anyone’s rent or utility bill.
- We do NOT see our mission as simply giving people handouts or “free stuff.”
We do NOT see our role as giving people things or volunteer assistance simply because they
want something and are poor. We see our role as being of the best possible assistance
to people in need—sometimes in unexpected ways.
- We do NOT ever require Christian faith, church membership or attendance
as a prerequisite for help. We are here for anyone who calls.
- We do NOT always have an answer—the work is done completely
by volunteers, and sometimes qualified volunteers are simply not available.
- Our coordinating Clearinghouse is SOLELY a phone operation—we do NOT serve walk-in clients.
*(For folks who do not have the resources to buy these things at a thrift store.)
**(Clients are generally responsible for paying for all supplies, except in cases of extreme need.)
