With sunny skies and rising gas prices, people are turning to bikes to cruise around town.
But not everyone can afford one, and that's where Love INC of Clackamas County's bike ministry comes in.
The group of eight refurbishes old bikes and gives them to people who can't afford them. Last Saturday, the
group held a benefit sale, selling surplus bikes they had received to raise money for youth bicycle helmets.
"We take donated bikes and repair them and clean them up. We provide (people) with a helmet and give it to them
because I think every kid should have a bike," said Gerry Hines, one of the founding members.
"We've also been giving quite a few bikes to adults who are without a job. Maybe their car's broken
down and they have no money. This way they can ride around and look for work."
The bike ministry meets to work on and distribute bikes the second Wednesday and second Saturday of each
month. For more information or to volunteer with them, contact Gerry Hines at grhines@msn.com.
